Cabaret & Lounge Clubs
GET LOADED
Turnmills, 63 Clerkenwell Road, EC1 (020-7250 3409).
First Thurs of every month 8.30pm-3am.

Is this really a good idea? Putting Shaun Ryder and Bez in charge of a nightclub is like letting Vanessa Feltz run a cake shop but, given the queues outside, it seems the lads have got it right. Expect DJ sets from the likes of the Farm and the Inspiral Carpets and a suitably mental crowd for whom dancing on the tables is de rigeur.
SUBTERFUGE
Charterhouse Bar, 38 Charterhouse Street, EC1 (020 7608 0858).
Last Sun of every month 6pm-12am.

Burlesque dancers, comedians and freaky types converge to make for a fun night of polysexual goings-on. Situated on the north side of the meat-packing district, the bar is recognisable from afar due to its unique triangular shape. Good brasserie-style food is also served from 5pm.
CLUB NME
Koko, 1A Camden High Street, NW1 (0870 432 5527).
Wed 10pm-3am.

The lush red and gold surroundings of new club Koko, formerly the Camden Palace, may sit strangely with NME’s more grungy aesthetic but this is proving to be an unqualified success for the music mag. The weekly session showcases unsigned bands handpicked by staff writers plus some surprise big-name guests.
KITSCH LOUNGE RIOT
Koko, 1A Camden High Street, NW1 (0870 432 5527).
Fri 10pm-3am.

One of the best live music nights out in London, KLR has now relocated to Koko where clubbers steeped in smoke and full of cocktails can enjoy hot DJs and velvety crooners. Previous guests have included the Andy Williams and the late Sacha Distel. It’s safe to say you won’t have been to a club like this before.
THE LADYLUCK CLUB
Secrets (basement), 34 Eversholt Street, NW1.
Fri 10pm-3am.

Jake Vegas, Ian Johnston and Ronnie King play cool swing, hot R&B, jive, Latin, crime jazz and Vegas ultra lounge in the basement of this Euston strip club. Dress smart – think pimped out, rather than Thomas Pink – and enjoy one of the most unusual and coolest places in London for the older clubber.
KERRANGE! PRESENTS RAMPAGE!
Canvas, Kings Cross Goods Yard Freight Depot, off York Way, N1 (020 7833 8301)
Second Sat of the month 10pm-6am.

Hair! Guitars! Cider! Kerrang! magazine brings the power of rock to Kings Cross with this wildly popular all-nighter which combines glam, metal and punk in a heady brew that’ll leave you gasping. There’s a stack of live sets throughout the night plus all-star DJ line-ups from Kerrang! heroes. A must-check for all London’s rock fans.
DEATH DISCO
Notting Hill Arts Club, 21 Notting Hill Gate, W11 (020 7460 4459).
Wed 6pm-1am.

Alan McGee, the fellow who ‘discovered’ Oasis, hosts this ever popular night at Notting Hill’s no-frills subterranean hang-out. Live bands punctuate the DJs’ rock sets while shaggy-haired types frug out on the dancefloor, watched by music industry execs who prefer to prop up the bar while listening out for the next White Stripes.
