Police and Fire stations Ladbroke Road, c. 1904. This image of the fire engines outside Notting Hill fire station (built in 1868 and opened in 1870) shows a steam pump, likely to be a Shand-Mason single cylinder. Local boys gather around the fireman on duty to be included in the photograph while a policeman looks on from outside the old Police station further down the road. |

‘Silence is Requested’. The Free Library, Ladbroke Grove, c. 1900. Sir John Lubcock Bart., M.P. who was then Chairman of the London County Council, opened the Library on 29th October 1891. The Rev. and Hon. Edward and Charles Kegan Paul, were all appointed commissioners.
